Greg Pugh

Vice-President | Principal, Operations

Greg Pugh, Principal of Operations, oversees the finance and Human Resources teams. Greg received a BA (Hons) in Archaeology from the University of Reading (UK) and an MA with Merit in Archaeology and Heritage from the University of Leicester (UK). He has worked in the Heritage Industry since 1993, dealing with both archaeology and cultural heritage, managing a wide variety of projects including those relating to Environmental Assessment and major infrastructure, as well as three World Heritage Sites. Since 1998 Greg has been focused on the business side of the industry, from negotiating contracts, to overseeing regional offices.

Between 1993 and 2013 Greg worked primarily in the UK for two of Europe’s leading heritage firms. Here he worked on a wide variety of sites from the Neolithic long barrows to Roman villas, from Medieval castles and palaces to Napoleonic POW camps and 19th and 20th century industrial archaeological sites. Greg has been fortunate to work on many well known archaeological and historical sites such as the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, Oxford Castle, Roman Bath, and Swansea’s Copper Quarter, as well as massive infrastructure projects such as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and the Olympic Rowing Lake at Dorney. During this period Greg was Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and provided expert witness and evidence at Public Inquiries.

Since moving to Ontario in 2013, Greg has worked on a range of Indigenous and historic archaeological projects as part of the ASI team, contributing to all aspects of Stage 1/2, 3, and 4 fieldwork and report writing. Notably, he was involved in the Stage 4 investigation of the late 19th-century Blacker’s Brickworks, one of only a few sites of its kind investigated in North America. Greg has also collaborated with the Cultural Heritage team on projects such as the Mount Nemo Plateau Conservation Management Plan. Since 2015, he has applied his extensive business experience to leading ASI’s Operations Division, working closely with three generations of ASI ownership and overseeing company-wide operational matters, including finance, furniture, fixtures and equipment, field services, fleet, Human Resources, and laboratory services. Greg has authored and contributed to published academic books. He became a Canadian citizen in 2019 and joined the ownership team in 2026.
