The first stage in any Ontario archaeological investigation involves conducting an in depth background study and a property inspection. To start, our archaeologists review historical maps and records, environmental research and archaeological site databases to help us identify any previous and potential cultural land uses. To supplement our background research we regularly conduct an optional property inspection to evaluate the physiography and current conditions of the property. If we are able to assess during these preliminary investigations that the property retains archaeological potential then we will recommend that a Stage 2 property assessment is required. Our results and recommendation are compiled into a Stage 1 assessment report which we submit to the MHSTCI for review and concurrence.
