The City of Windsor was an early adopter of an archaeological management plan, having completed their original study in 2005. In 2020, Windsor commissioned a project team jointly composed of staff from Fisher Archaeological Consulting and ASI Heritage to update the Windsor Archaeological Management Plan—affectionately known as the WAMP—to bring it into better alignment with the current needs of City staff. This included a major engagement component with several Indigenous communities as well as the citizens of Windsor. Continuity with the original WAMP was provided by Jacquie Fisher, who was a key member of the 2005 study team, while ASI provided considerable experience with archaeological management plans and Indigenous engagement as well as GIS expertise and staff capacity. The WAMP update was officially passed as an official plan amendment by Windsor City Council in September 2024. This paper highlights some of the key findings and outcomes of the study.
