The King Spadina Neighbourhood Becomes a Heritage Conservation District

After many years of hard work, the King Spadina Neighbourhood was designated a Heritage Conservation District at the October 2 meeting of Toronto City Council!

We have been working on this project since 2013 with the City of Toronto, Taylor Hazell Architects, DTAH, Urban Strategies and R. E. Millward. As our part of developing this HCD, our Cultural Heritage department contributed to the survey of every property within the boundaries of King Street, Bathurst Street, Adelaide Street and Spadina Avenue. These data were used to analyse and evaluate the unique character of this vibrant neighbourhood. Our Planning Division worked on another aspect of this large project, by defining the archaeologically sensitive areas that exist within the King-Spadina area.

We are so pleased about this decision by City Council to conserve this unique neighbourhood located in the heart of downtown Toronto. This is a great result for heritage conservation in our city.
