A new exhibition has just opened in Quebec City that highlights the culture and history of the Huron-Wendat people and their relationships with St. Lawrence Iroquoian populations. ASI was very pleased to lend some of our favourite artifacts to this groundbreaking initiative!
This exhibit was inspired by the 2015 OAS Symposium that brought together archaeologists from the Great lakes Region with members of the Huron-Wendat nation to take a fresh look at the history of the St Lawrence region on the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain’s arrival in Huronia. This project is a collaboration between the Huron-Wendat Nation and Michel Plourde from the Université de Laval. Combining the latest archaeological research with the Nation’s oral traditions, this display is unique in the quality of artifacts on display, and the breadth of history it narrates.
The exhibit “Ahchiouta’a recounts the history of the Huron-Wendat of the St. Lawrence” runs from May 3rd to December 16th, 2018 at the Maison des Jésuites de Sillery.
