ASI’s Dr. Ron Williamson selected for province’s Culture Strategy Advisory Group

The provincial government has formed a Culture Strategy Advisory Group to work with them as they produce a new Culture Strategy for the province. ASI’s Dr. Ron Williamson is one of the sixteen chosen for the group, which will provide expert advice to the government as it works to shape its new Strategy.

What does culture mean to you? The province wants to know, and your answers will form the new Culture Strategy for Ontario. The new strategy, which will be ready for public review in winter 2016, “will set a vision for arts and culture, define priorities and guide support for the sector in the years to come.”

We at ASI support this initiative as a major step forward in the province’s cultural outreach for the people of Ontario – it is the first time since the government has has revisited the topic of culture publicly since the early 1990s. We think you should take full advantage of this opportunity to have your say. Upon reflection of his appointment to the Culture Strategy Advisory Group, Dr. Williamson stated “I look forward to working with the group and the provincial initiative to ensure the needs of the heritage sector are recognized as part of the strategy.”

There are three ways you can participate in the new strategy:

  1. By joining the Culture Talks conversations online;
  2. In-person at a local town hall meeting (the Toronto town hall conversation is happening on November 12th at the National Ballet School);
  3. By leaving a comment online on the discussion paper.
